Her Excellency the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Commander-in Chief of Armed Force is pleased to institute a Medal to commemorate the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The Medal shall be styled and designated Republic of Sri Lanka Air Force 50th Anniversary Medal.
The Medal shall be shaped in a fifteen petals form made of cupro-nickel signifying the protection of the sovereignty of Sri Lanka by the Sri Lanka Air Force, with the Commander (1) as its head with the assistance of the C of S (2), Directors (3), Command Officers (4) and the Base Commanders/Commanding Officers (5) in accordance with the 10 principles of war (6-15) against the enemy, in the center the Sri Lanka Air Force emblem and in the East the figure 50 which signifies the dawn of 50th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force from which side the Sun rises and surrounded by a motif of 50 circles signifying the completion of 50 years of the Sri Lanka Air Force in the year 2001 and on the reverse in the center the dated 02.03.1951 and 02.03.2001 denoting the establishment of the Sri Lanka Air Force and the date of the 50th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force respectively with unthreshed stalks of rice grain on either side of the dates to show prosperity and the wording 'Golden Jubilee of the Sri Lanka Air Force' in Sinhala and Tamil surrounded by a motif of 50 circles as described above.
The Medal Ribbon shall be in 3 equal main stripes and the center one will consist of four stripes with the colours orange, dark green, maroon and saffron signifying the colours of the Sri Lanka Air Force Roundel with the other 2 main stripes on either side in sky blue signifying the Air Force colour with the side 2 signifying 2 halves of a century which is 50 each. The medal shall be awarded to :-
- Officers and other ranks of the Regular Force and Regular Reserve of the Sri Lanka Air Force who possess a minimum of five years of service form the date of commission or enlistment.
- All officers and other ranks of the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Air Force who possess a minimum of five years of reckonable active service from the date commission or enlistment.
- Permanent or casual civilian employees of the Sri Lanka Air Force who possess a minimum of five years of reckonable service.
Provided that all those to whom the Medal is awarded shall be in service at any time during the period 03rd march 2000 to 02nd March 2001 being the year of the 50th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force. The Republic of Sir Lanka Air fore 50th Anniversary Medal shall be worn immediately before the Sri Lanka Air force 25th Anniversary Medal. Reproduction of the Medal in Miniature, known as Miniature Medals, which may be worn on certain occasions by those to whom the Medal is awarded, shall be half of the size of the award.
